El Paso, Texas- (May 24, 2022) - Workforce Solutions Borderplex is excited to announce the addition of a Family Service Department and newly hired staff that will help the organization continue supporting families in our region.
The Family Services Department is focused on ensuring the impact Workforce Solutions Borderplex makes goes beyond the individual.
“WSB is an organization of consistent support and resources the entire family can access and use to elevate themselves to a better place,” said Leila Melendez, CEO for Workforce Solutions Borderplex.
Five new team members will make up the staff for the new Family Services Department including Myriam Guerrero who, last December, completed RICE’s Nonprofit Executive Leadership program. Guerrero has been with Workforce Solutions Borderplex with various leadership roles for 10 years and will serve as the Family Services Director.
Margarita “Mita” Almeida-Mendoza will be joining Workforce Solutions Borderplex as a Program Specialist. Mita comes from a teaching background that includes a decade of teaching special education in her hometown of Tucson, Arizona. Before joining WSB, she was the lead of the Disabilities Department at Child-Parent Centers, a grantee of Head Start, for Southern Arizona. Mita earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of Arizona and her master’s degree from Northern Arizona University.
Ivette Alvarado and Stephanie Pickens will both serve as Workforce Project Specialists which will allow both Alvarado and Pickens to analyze data to spot trends within the childcare community in the Borderplex region that will help formulate effective programming and provide tailored resources.
Alvarado will be bringing over 17 years of experience in counseling individuals and their families on traumatic life events. Pickens has spent much of her professional career giving back to her community. One of her goals is ensuring families have access to resources that improve their quality of life.
Juan Pablo Vasquez will join the team as Outreach Specialist. Vasquez has an extensive background within sales and working with community outreach.
During his time at Southwest University, he worked as a member of their Job Placement Department and within four months was promoted to Director.
“To influence action in people they must feel that you care, that you understand their struggles and that you empathize,” Vasquez said. “My life has taught me to do just that, to respect everyone and judge no one.”
Family-centered employment is not a novel concept, not a special project, not a program name but a necessary standard in workforce and economic development. WSB is a member of a community of other workforce boards across the country that are sharing best practices and lessons learned and are mentored largely by the National Association of Workforce Boards.
